I wanted to give this recipe 3 stars, but DH insisted I give it 4. He's going to eat the leftovers. I did not like this recipe. It didn't look anything like the photo posted, and tasted rather ordinary. DH liked it because one, it was different and two, because it was reminiscent of a cajun flavor. Mixed vote with us.
Your mom knew how to make crab curry. This was delicious and easy to make. I used two dungeness crabs for this. I definitely recommend adding a bit of tamarind to this - I used about 3/4tsp tamarind paste and it may taste sharp at first but it mellows out in a little while. It just gives it a wonderful flavor.
I tried this with crabmeat (that is, without the shells) and it was very good, my friends took seconds too. Not the best crab curry I have had but this is good enough for me to make on my own. I added some garam masala too.
My husband and I liked this well enough, but we both felt something was missing. We even ground our own spices, but it just didn't turn into the spectacular meal we expected.
