I would give this 3 and a half stars. This was quite nice but I felt it lacked something in the flavour. The cake mixture was very dry when I was making it, I added the butter and milk but there wasn't enough liquid to combine the ingredients so I had to add extra milk. I cooked it for 35 minutes which was fine. There wasn't much sauce and it was quite thick and difficult to serve. I liked that the top was crispy due to the sugar. This was nice with ice-cream.

  1. Heat oven to 350*F.
  2. In small bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder and salt.
  3. Stir in milk, margarine and vanilla; blend well.
  4. Spread batter in ungreased 9 inch round or square pan.
  5. In small bowl, combine sugar, cocoa and dash salt; mix well.
  6. Sprinkle evenly over cake batter.
  7. Pour hot water over sugar mixture.
  8. Bake at 350* for 35 to 45 minutes or until center is set and firm to the touch.
  9. Serve warm.
