    Directions:

      Heat oven to 350*F.
    2. 2
      In small bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder and salt.

      Stir in milk, margarine and vanilla; blend well.

      Spread batter in ungreased 9 inch round or square pan.

      In small bowl, combine sugar, cocoa and dash salt; mix well.

      Sprinkle evenly over cake batter.

      Pour hot water over sugar mixture.

      Bake at 350* for 35 to 45 minutes or until center is set and firm to the touch.

      Serve warm.

      I would give this 3 and a half stars. This was quite nice but I felt it lacked something in the flavour. The cake mixture was very dry when I was making it, I added the butter and milk but there wasn't enough liquid to combine the ingredients so I had to add extra milk. I cooked it for 35 minutes which was fine. There wasn't much sauce and it was quite thick and difficult to serve. I liked that the top was crispy due to the sugar. This was nice with ice-cream.

      Delicious and perfect comfort food! Although I think this would be wonderful with ice cream we served this warm with cool whip for a fun chocoloaty dessert! As this dessert uses ingredients we usually always have on hand and is a snap to put together this will become one of our regular stand-bys. Thanks for sharing!

      This is wonderful! The batter is nice and thick and takes a bit to spread through the pan. But after you put all the sugar on top and then add the water, the result is magical! It becomes crunchy on top and like a volcano of chocolate underneath. Fabulous with ice cream!! And it went together quickly and easily. Yum!
