I can't believe that I found this recipe out there! Like you, we've never known anyone who has heard of this. This recipe has been a favorite in our family since my mother-in-law started making it for her kids back in the 50's! Since then, it has been passed down - currently to the 3rd generation! It maintains it's status of "favorite". The only difference in our family's recipe is we don't add the garlic salt/powder (the first generation still aren't fans of garlic...if you can imagine that!) and we add 2-3 Tablespoons of butter to the pasta & hot dogs before adding the tomatoes. It adds a nice richness to the dish. Thank you for posting this!
This is a perfedct recipe. I had hotdogs in the fridge that needed to be used, and just happened to have a package of elbow macaroni. Who doesn't have cans of diced tomatoes? I seasoned with salt and pepper, garlic powder. Bujt, I also added my all-time favorites of parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme. Yummy! Thank you for sharing this recipe!
I modified this a bit, but it was fairly close to the original. Sauted some onions and garlic till soft, then put the cut up hot dogs in with them to brown a little. Used a big can of diced tomatoes with juice. The husband and kids scarfed it up. Can't beat this meal, takes 20 minutes, costs about $6, and makes a TON. Thanks bunnylove!
Perfect quick meal for the kiddos (and adults too)! I used all beef hot dogs and bowtie noodles. The kids named this "hot dogs and butterflies." It couldn't have been much easier to make. Some of sprinkled some shredded parmesan cheese on top. Thanx for sharing this!
This is one of my most favorite quick, fill me up dishes!! Is really good to made with shells. Thanks for posting it. :)
