Hot Cocoa for a Crowd

Ingredients Nutrition

  • 1 12 cups sugar
  • 12 cup cocoa
  • 14 teaspoon salt
  • 12 cups milk
  • 4 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • sweetened whipped cream, optional
  • additional cocoa (optional)


  1. Stir together sugar, cocoa and salt in a 4- to 6-quart saucepan.
  2. Heat milk in microwave until hot, but not boiling; gradually add to cocoa mixture, stirring until well-blended.
  3. Stir in vanilla.
  4. Serve immediately or keep warm over very low heat for up to 2 hours.
  5. At serving time, stir; pour into mugs.
  6. Garnish with whipped cream; sift cocoa over whipped cream if desired.

I made this on Christmas Eve for the kids. I used 4 12 oz cans of evaporated milk (6 cups) and 6 cups of water in place of the whole milk. Once it was ready I kept it warm in a crockpot. Perfect!!

Yummy! I didn't bother heating milk in the microwave, just dumped in the pot and stirred until hot. Thanks for sharing the recipe!

This is very good! I had a craving for some hot cocoa and found this recipe. I reduced it to 1 serving, kept true to the recipe, and it worked wonderfully! :) Thank you for posting. ~Buddha
