  1. This is the recipe that I have used for 20 years. It is absolutely the best. If you like firestick candy you will love it. I use 1 1/4 tsp of cinnamon oil because we like it really hot. It is super easy and makes a great holiday gift. I remove mine from the stove right at 300 because it will continue to heat up a bit before you get to stirring. I have scorched a batch like the other reviewer in the past and when the candy is scorched it seems to kill the cinnamon flavor. If you scorch it...toss it out and watch the temp closer next time.

  2. This such and old and wonderful recipe. My mother used to make this for us kids to sell at school during out annual Halloween Festival. I also remove mine at 300 to prevent scorching. The best part about this recipe is being able to adjust the amount of cinnamon oil to your own tastes.

  3. I don't know what happened. I went step by step with the directions, but my syrup turned brown by the time it got to 300, It was a golden brown, so I didn't worry about it, but it tastes scorched. Also, I think it needs more than 1 tsp of cinnamon oil, it just has a hint of cinnamon flavor, but could be because the syrup is scorched. I am going to try it again, and hopefully it will be better!

After DH and I moved away from the farm, and to the city...I haven't done as much cooking and very little canning. But I do come to Zaar and look for new recipes once in a while. I'm still cooking Zaar!! I like to play at Facebook, with my family and friends. A lot of my Zaar friends are there!! Yay! It's a good way to keep in touch. We travel more. We're looking at the European trips now. Hope to go in the springtime. I really want to see London, I think I lived there in a past life, I've been obsessed with it since I was 10 years old!!
