So nice and easy to enjoy on a cold day... AuntSana took the beautiful picture and kicked it up a notch. She dipped the rim in maple syrup and then in cocoa. Brilliant!
- Whisk everything together and heat over medium low heat for about 10 minutes, whisking often. Please note that the grated nutmeg is to taste.
- If you have an immersion blender, whip the mixture up with it for about a minute to make it a little frothy.
Made it this morning for my boys (3 and 1) - minus the nutmeg. They loved it, and I like that it doesn't contain refined sugar!
This is decent for a healthier option. I wanted a hot cocoa recipe that didn't use refined sugar, and I also subbed in unsweetened almond milk because we're dairy-free. I don't have an immersion blender so I just whisked the heck out of it with a metal whisk. It was a little thin so I added some more cocoa powder and whisked some more, and that helped a bit.
Just didn't taste good to myself and my grandson. It had an odd flavor with the maple syrup. Was looking for a healthier hot chocolate, but we will keep looking.
