directions

  • Note: You may decrease the amount of white flour and increase the wheat flour, but the bread will not rise as high.
  • Add ingredients in the order suggested by the manufacturer.
  • Set Cycle: Dough, Size: 2lb.
  • Spray two baking sheets with non-stick cooking spray, and preheat the oven to 375F.
  • When the cycle is finished, take the dough out and divide into 20 equal pieces (I use a scale).
  • Roll into ropes about 8 inches long, and tie as you would a knot, press the ends together and place end-side down on the baking sheet.
  • Allow to rise until doubled, about 30 minutes.
  • Brush with eggs or milk; eggs give a shiny, golden hard crust, milk gives a tender golden crust, water makes a light shine and crisp golden crust.
  • Or brush with honey for a sweet crust after baking.
  • Bake until well-browned, about 15 minutes.

  1. This is a hearty bread, nutty, and very nice flavor. I love the oatmeal nutty taste to this bread I, however, made them into hamburger buns which was a mistake. I got 6 buns out of them but they were too heavy for buns. So the next time, I will just do dinner rolls.

  2. Yum!

  3. Great hearty bread. We loved it and I will make this again. Thanks!

  4. Very sweet rolls - but fantastic! I used them for hamburger buns and so did half egg and half milk for the top = perfecto! Edit: I've made these 2 more times and unfortunatley have not had the same luck in my attempts to make hambruger buns. Although they rose, I halved the recipe and still only ened up with 4 decent sized rolls that were anything but light and fluffy. :( I will try again I guess.

  5. Excellent bread. I made this using my stand mixer rather than a bread machine. I used a full cup of wheat flour and 2 cups white. The dough was easy to work with and I had no problem shaping it. The results? One of the best breads I've had. As someone else commented, these would make excellent buns as well. I will be making them again. Thank you for sharing.

Hi .. The pic is of my beautiful son, born on 2/5/2005. His name is Tariq, meaning Bright Star. As I type this, he is blowing bubbles in his water cup and watching cartoons. He whined to get this water for 15 mins and now he won't drink it, he will only play with it. Sigh.. A few days ago he came up with this song, so sing along to the tune of "Old McDonald" : Old McTariq Laq Laq Laq E I E I OOOOOO LOL I thought it was the cutest thing :-) When I'm not running around after my son, or cleaning up the mess he makes wherever he goes, I cook and bake (my husband loves the blueberry muffins I make) and I love trying new recipes .. I also love to read, and collect sci-fi/fantasy novels .. I have over 500 books and still counting ..
