yet another fabulous bread machine recipe
- 1 egg, plus enough water to equal 1 1/3 c
- 1⁄4 cup softened butter
- 1⁄2 cup honey
- 4 cups flour
- 2⁄3 cup cornmeal
- 3 tablespoons dry milk
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 1⁄2 teaspoons yeast
- add ingredients to machine in this order.
- bake on basic cycle.
Very good and so easy! We served this with chili for a great weekday meal! Thanks for sharing!
This bread was GREAT! Oh so perfect for sandwiches, firm yet soft, a great flavor... If you want more of a cornbread flavor I suggest swapping 1/2 cup to a cup of additional cornmeal for the same amount of the flour. I'll be making this ALL THE TIME from now on!
This is a delicious dense bread that goes well with stew, but I didn't think it was anything at all like any kind of cornbread I've ever had. (And I've had lots of different kinds!) I couldn't really detect the cornmeal flavor at all. In fact, if I didn't already know it was in there, I never would have guessed that cornmeal was an ingredient. So, for me, this is a very good bread recipe; just not what one might expect from cornbread. And being a bread machine recipe, I expected that it might be different. Nonetheless, it went great with the stew I had made, so I'm happy!
