A great side dish and homemade applesauce is so much better! Made real easy by using the microwave. The raisins kick it up a notch!
- 5 large mcintosh apples, cored (about 2 lbs)
- 1⁄4 cup water
- 1⁄3 cup seedless raisin
- 3 tablespoons sugar, to taste
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- Place apples in microwave dish.
- Add water and raisins and cover.
- Microwave on high for 10 minutes.
- Let stand 10 minutes.
- Remove apple skins and mash apples with a fork.
- Stir in sugar and cinnamon.
Yummy! This was so good, and so easy. Two things threw me off- it was very dark in colour because of all the cinnamon, which made it look a bit unappealing, I thought. And there seemed to be a lot of raisins. I don't know, maybe my apples were on the small side and this made everything else stronger. I probably should have added one or two more to make up for the runtiness of my little apples! It tastes absolutely *wonderful* though! (I've only snuck a bite while it was still hot, I'm waiting to see if it's as amazing tasting when it's cold too! Hoping the cinnamon won't get stronger in the fridge).
This makes the most amazing applesauce! Had my girlfriends over for coffee and served toasted english muffins with this applesauce on top. Everyone ws amazed that I had made homemade applesauce and that is was yummy! The recipe is as easy as can be and I really feel like I am making something healthy. A+++
Can't wait to try this, McIntosh are my favorite. Thanks
