I adopted this recipe from the RecipeZaar account. I have not had a chance to make this myself.
- Pour the milk into a medium heavy saucepan and bring to a boil.
- Reduce to a simmer and cook 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Stir in the sugar and continue simmering 10 to 15 minutes or until reduced to 3 cups.
- Homemade condensed milk can be refrigerated up to a week.
I think this may be the one recipe for condensed milk on 'Zaar that is not made with dry milk powder, but rather with fresh milk! Pretty easy- I just let it simmer and stirred it once it a while while I did the dishes. My milk only needed 30 minutes to simmer however (step 2) but that's no big deal and it may have to do with the fact that I halved the recipe. The straining part is kind of important, as chances are, your milk developed a skin or two between stirs and if you don't strain you'll have little chunks of milk skin throughout. Overall good and if you want to have a fresh milk flavor to your condensed milk, this is the recipe to go for, but keep in mind it is a little time consuming. Thanks for posting, Mean.
