These were really good! Very chewy, just like the name promised. I used 1/4 c honey and 1/4 c karo, will cut back on the brown sugar and just stick with the honey next time as there were quite sweet and I think they'd still be good with less. love the peanut butter and the fact there's no flour added. Saw another recipe that used flax meal, may try that instead of the wheat germ. This recipe is so versatile, the options are endless! I gave a lot of these away so I could make another batch with nuts! I cut them small so when I go back for the second one there's no guilt! Thanks so much for posting.
Excellent!! I used pure maple syrup instead of the Corn syrup. Also I used 100% oat bran instead of the whole oat meal. Only because I thought I had oat meal but didn't . The bran worked excellent! Plus, I also didn't have any raisian's either, so I used dries prunes and put them into a blender. I see a lot of different ideas with this recipe. I wonder, if you just put the mixture on to a cookie sheet into little crumbles and baked it to a crunchy cereral type..... I may try that next time. I will be maiking this again! LOVE IT!!
Love the idea of this recipe and I will definitely be making these over and over. I baked my first batch for 15minutes and they came out perfect.
I ended up using craisins instead of raisins, and I didn't use sunflower seeds, wheat germ, or sesame seeds. Instead I used 3/4 a cup of Kashi 7-grain nuggets cereal (http://www.kashi.com/products/kashi_nuggets_original). This made them have a nice crunch to them, but they were still be soft and chewy at the same time. Like other reviewers, I used only half a cup of chocolate chips, and I used the mini chocolate chips. I also found this to be a little too sweet, and I will cut down on the sugar some the next time as well. A very nice recipe. Thanks!
Not a food topper for yogurt or anything, but it's GREAT alone. We loved these.
The kids love these, made them with dried cherries and choc chips--then with dried apricots and almonds. We leave out the coconut.
I made these last night for my daughter but I'm having a hard time keeping my hands off of them! I used country crock light instead of butter ( I usually don't recommend doing this), dates instead of raisins, extra sunflower seeds instead of sesame seeds, and only used 1/2 cup of chocolate chips. I couldn't be happier with the outcome. Thanks for this great recipe!
We loved these. However found after 1st try, 1 cup of chocolate chips was too much chocolate for our tastes. I cut the chocolate chips down to 1/2 cup and upped the sunflower seeds to 1 cup and we all like it even better. Also, no sesame seeds added.
Very good and healthy bars! I toasted the oats before adding, gives nice flavor.
Very good recipe, but best taste if you use honey instead of corn syrup. I have this exact recipe in a book called Mennonite Country-Style Recipes & Kitchen Secrets. Very yum!
