Are you out of baking powder??? Here is an easy recipe for homemade baking powder! The recipe comes from the cookbook titled "The Gift of Southern Cooking" and was printed in our local newspaper.
- Sift cream of tartar and baking soda together three times.
- Transfer mixture to a clean, tight-sealing jar.
- Store at room temperature, away from sunlight, up to 6 weeks.
This works really well. It doesn't have the metallic undertones that commercial baking powders can impart.
This worked very well for me, I was out of baking powder and cornstarch (which is an ingredient in all the other recipes) and so I tried this, it still worked great and the food came out normal. Thanks!
Use the same proportions - 2:1 but at a much reduced scale - 1 tsp C.T. and 0.5 tsp Baking Soda for a Gluten Free version of Baking Powder. Very useful.
