This the best Amaretto cake ever. It is super moist and loaded with Amaretto.

Ingredients Nutrition

Directions

  1. Cream butter and 1 1/2 cups sugar until light and fluffy; beat in egg yolks one at a time. Fold in beaten egg whites. Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt, and add to batter a little at a time, alternating with sour cream. Stir until smooth. Mix in grated orange peel and walnuts and pour into buttered 9" tube pan. Bake 50 minutes at 350 degrees. Mix remaining sugar with orange juice and Amaretto and spoon over cake as soon as it comes out of oven. Cool before removing from pan.

Very nice cake! It is indeed moist and has a flavor rather like a pound cake or lemon-poppyseed cake. I followed the serving suggestion in the photo and enrobed it in an amaretto-laced chocolate ganache, which I thought was a really nice touch. The only suggestion I would make is that when you try this recipe, bump up the amount of amaretto that you use. I took this cake to a party (for a friend who loves amaretto so much that she even makes her own), and nobody ever guessed that it had amaretto in it; the flavor was very subtle. I think the cake can handle more moisture, so next time I'm going to try 1/2 cup.
