These cookies melt in you mouth, they are so good, a wonderful cookie recipe and a favorite in our house especially around the holiday season! Bake less time for a softer cookie, also, plan ahead, these cookies need to chill one or more hours in the fridge.

  1. Set oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Prepare a ungreased cookie sheet.
  3. In a bowl, combine butter and sugar, beat at medium speed until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the melted chocolate, egg, vanilla and milk; mix well.
  5. Sift together the flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda.
  6. Add to the creamed mixture, mix well.
  7. Mix in the nuts (if using).
  8. Chill the dough for 1-2 hours, or until firm enough to shape into 1-inch balls.
  9. Place balls about 2-inches apart on prepared cookie sheet.
  10. Bake for 8-10 minutes (8 minutes for softer/fudgier cookies), tops will be soft.
  11. Remove carefully from cookie sheet, roll immediately in icing sugar to thoroughly coat cookie.
  12. Cool on wire racks; then roll again in icing sugar.

These are tasty little morsels. I only gave them 4 stars because they could have used a little touch of something. I'm not sure what - maybe something like brandy or rum flavoring? I used pecans, but maybe walnuts would have been better with their stronger flavor. I baked them on the shorter timeframe, and they were brownie-like in the center, which was good. They were quite easy to make, but I did break a few as I rolled them in the sugar. I didn't get 60 cookies out of the recipe, but there were over 2 full cookie sheets worth. I wanted something that looked like it was covered with snow, and these filled the bill. The double-sugar-rolling made the sugar stick well to the outside (a tip I will remember for other sugar coated Christmas cookies.)

Kitten! These are amazing!! I was looking through the cookie recipes when this one caught my eye. I've seen lots of recipes "like" this but I hadn't seen this chocolate one! I baked them a minute or so less, so that they'd be a little soft. My hubby loves these! I'm trying so hard not to eat them, but my defenses are weakening! Thanks again,Kitten for an amazing cookie! These will sit center stage in my Christmas trays!

I have made these 3 times in the last week and given away the recipe twice so far. I have used cocoa and butter to replace the chocolate and I forgot the egg one time. BUT they have turn out delicious and popular with everyone. They are a new holiday tradition at my house
