I didn't grow up in Germany, but was lucky to be exposed to the quisine as I grew up in the US. This is great & so worthy of 10 stars! I admit I doubted the apple & how much it would contribute. I was so wrong! All the flavors & textures just work for each other! I didn't bother to layer & just combined all ingredients, including the dill. All that said, I must add that I prob wouldn't do this again ... BUT I would buy the commercially prepared in sour cream herring product & add your variations, beginning w/Step 4. I guarantee it will happen! Yummy!
This was perfect. I had just bought a big jar of herring packed in sour cream, so I got really excited when I found this one. Great combinations of flavor.
