Great for sandwiches or for toast with a bit of cream cheese. I take a mortar & pestle to the thyme and rosemary before measuring. Cooking time depends on white bread recipe you're using, so I just estimated the maximum time it takes to knead in the seasonings by hand. (I've never made bread in a bread machine, but don't see why it wouldn't work with that method, too.) UPDATE: This is a warning that the nutmeg taste in this recipe is fairly pronounced. I'm particularly fond of nutmeg so I don't mind that, but I suggest others may want to try just using 1/4 tsp to start off and then increase if you desire a stronger nutmeg accent. (Thanks, Kitz!)
- 1⁄2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1⁄4 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1⁄4 teaspoon dried rosemary
- 2 teaspoons caraway seeds
- 2 loaves white bread dough
- Combine nutmeg through caraway seeds.
- Add to dough just before kneading.
Great combination of herbs, I did not include the nutmeg and only used 1 tsp. of the caraway seeds because I was worried it would be too powerful. That being said, after eating it the full 2 tsp. would have been just fine and will do that next time. I used Recipe #64446 for the bread just subbing your herbs for the recipes and it was a great combo that I highly recommend! Thanks!
I made this with my Kittencal's Perfect Snow White Bread, next time I think I will reduce the nutmeg to just a pinch or omit completely, thanks echo!...Kitten:)
