Gosh, I was heartbroken when I made these cookies. I was so pysched about the chocolate and coconut combo, but they were not that great. The coconut got totally lost. I feel the texture of it, but could not taste it. I also thought they were way too sweet. I am a huge fan of the choco/p-nut butter/oatmeal no bakes and have made hundreds of them over the years. I think I will stick that recipe. I am happy that everyone else really enjoyed them. Also, the recipe didn't even make that many cookies. I do make them pretty big, size of a half dollar or so. Thanks! Later this evening: My hubby came home and tried them. He liked them alot and suggested some pecans or almonds next time. He thought they would then taste like a German Chocolate cookie. I will make them again, but I will cut the sugar back by a 1/4 cup or possibly even more. Thanks! Give them a try. You might like them.

oh my mom used to make these for us! it was torture waiting for them to cool. don't be put off when you don't see peanut butter listed in the ingredients. i didn't even know there was a chocolate/peanut butter version of haystacks until i was in college and i will ALWAYS prefer the chocolate/coconut version. occasionally mom would add chopped walnuts but they're super good without!
