  1. These have been a go to appetizer in my family for about 25 years and this is the first time I've seen these online. You must be from Ohio? Great recipe

  2. I stopped using velveeta. Just can’t buy it. Shred cheddar, not sharp, or Monterey Jack and add (to 12 oz of cheese ) 2 Tbs cornstarch, toss to coat cheese and gradually add to meat mixture. Perfection. Works for all queso, hanky panky, or cheesy recipe. Bye velveeta! .

  3. I have been making these for years. And I'm from ohio.

  4. This recipe is SPOT ON! I use both regular Velveeta and the newer Velveeta Queso Blanco!

  5. Don't let the name fool you... these are the best treats and they freeze wonderfully! I usually make a double batch, cook them ALMOST all the way but leave them a bit underdone, let them cool, and put them in a big Ziploc freezer bag. If you have unexpected company, just pull out a cookie sheet and reheat!

Tweaks

  1. I have alwasy added Worcestershire sauce to taste.

  2. Excellent! Thanks for posting this. I always relied on my mother’s recollection to make this every year around Christmas. We added Worcestershire sauce, a tsp. of Italian seasoning and garnished with a half a small green olive pressed in the center, cut side up. We’re from Indiana, next state over.

  3. I miss eating hanky panky since going vegetarian! I am going to make a version using plant based meat substitutes.... Hopefully they will turn out yummy!

  4. I loved this recipe, however, to make it a bit healthier I substituted the ground beef for ground turkey and my guests never new the difference. Not only that I turned it into a dip and substituted the bread with tortilla chips. I put the mixture into a small crockpot or what we call the bean warmer and was good to go.
