Terrific!! I did it a little differently. I stir-fried the onion and celery until it was crisp tender. Added previously browned ground beef. Used 2 cups water and 4 tablespoons cornstarch, oyster sauce and soy sauce and seasoned to taste. Also used 1 can bean sprouts and 1 can fancy Chinese vegetables (LaChoy brand) which I drained. It is absolutely delicious! My mom used to make something like this back in the 60's. I never got her recipe and it makes me very happy to re-create a dish from my childhood. (Mom wouldn't have known what oyster sauce was though, as we had never heard of such things). LtlPhyl #2, thanks for the recipe! It's a real keeper and worthy of 10 stars. Cheap, filling and really easy to make!

My mother in law used to make a similar dish and I have been on the hunt for a replacement for my hubby. He thinks this is the closest recipe I have tried so SUCCESS. =) I only used one can of bean sprouts, added a can of sliced water chestnuts (drained), and 2/3 cup of peas and carrots. I also reduced the salt in half. He was very happy with his blast from his mom's kitchen and I enjoyed being able to make it for him. Made for Spring '09 Pick A Chef.
