I grew up on this dish! My mom also added onion to the hamburger. Did not drain the beans but would crush about 1/4 of the beans creating a thick gravy. Topped with chopped green onions in bowls.

My dad used to make this for me when I was little except he added onion to the hamburger and he served it up with super buttery mashed potatoes. I make it now for my family. I still love it as much as an adult as I did as a kid!

I just finished a large helping for an early dinner. I served it over rice, and I must say, as another poster stated, this is excellent comfort food! I love beans served over rice. Now, I also have leftovers for tortillas. I will admit to adding a splash of Texas Pete hot sauce to my serving. But then, I eat it on almost everything anyway. Versitile, simple, fast, and great for leftovers.

Ilove hamburger and kidney beans. I served it with rice. Topped it with fresh diced tomatoes and sour cream. This is a winner in my cookbook. Thank You for the wonderful recipe. Hugs

Comfort food doesn't get much better or easier than this! I love ground beef and I love kidney beans, so how could I not like this? This is a very basic, simple dish that doesn't disappoint. I didn't have garlic salt, so I used garlic powder and it worked just fine.

This is very close to what my mom made. If you add 1/2c chopped onions to the hamburger while your browning it and then toss in a can of tomatoes, about 1c cooked pasta and stew it for awhile you have "Mrs. Sutton's Ghoulash" (That's what we called it. ...even though I'm not even sure it's a ghoulash! I'm cooking it right now. Kids like it because it's not very spicy.
