I came up with the idea for the sauce, and while grilling the ham over the stove, it would be easy to have the sauce in a large measuring cup .

  1. In a saucepan, saute onion in butter until onion browns.
  2. Stir frequently, to prevent burning.
  3. Stir in soda, ketchup, mustard, salt, chili powder. pepper, and cloves.
  4. Heat to boiling, reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes.
  5. Fish out cloves, and discard.
  6. Brush sauce over both sides of steaks as they heat.
