Ham and Cheddar Pudding

A simple brunch/lunch dish. Kids really like it.

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Butter 8 inch square baking pan.
  3. Melt Cheddar in milk over moderate heat, stirring, and let cool.
  4. Spread bread with butter and arrange 4 slices buttered side down in baking pan.
  5. Top with half of ham and make another layer in the same way.
  6. In a bowl, combine eggs, mustard, Tabasco and a pinch of salt.
  7. Whisk in Cheddar mixture and ladle mixture over bread.
  8. Let stand, covered loosely, overnight in refrigerator.
  9. Put in a larger pan, add enough hot water to larger pan to come halfway up sides.
  10. Bake in middle of oven for 40 minutes.
  11. Serve warm.
