This is my version of a recipe from a favorite seafood restaurant in Anchorage, Alaska. It's pretty close. This recipe is AMAZING with your favorite rice dish and steamed broccoli.

Ingredients Nutrition

  • 1 12 lbs halibut fillets, cut in serving sizes (Not steaks)
  • 1 12 cups shredded cheddar cheese, Tilamook if it is available
  • 2 (1 ounce) packagesof knorr bearnaise sauce mix
  • 12 cup butter
  • 2 cups milk
  • 3 tablespoons sliced almonds
  • paprika, to garnish

Directions

  1. Cut halibut into serving size pieces.
  2. Make Bearnaise sauce according to package directions, using the butter and milk.
  3. Add 1/2 cup of the shredded cheddar and stir till melted through.
  4. Roll halibut filets in the sauce, and place in a lightly greased baking dish.
  5. Drizzle the remaining sauce over top of the fish, top with the remaining 1 cup of cheddar cheese and bake for 15 minutes in a 350°F oven.
  6. After 15 minutes, sprinkle with the sliced almonds and paprika and bake another 15 minutes, or till your fish flakes as when done.
  7. Baking times will vary according to thickness of fish.

I was a little heavy handed on the cheese and it was amazing. Thanks for the recipe.

Awesome recipe. Great to have some variety for Salmon a staple here in the Northwest. I made my own sauce, and just sprinkled the cheese over the top before cooking.

Actually, I made this twice. The first time I used the package of Knorr bernaise and thought it was a 3 or 4 star. The second time, I made my own bernaise and thought it was a definite 5! I too only used one package (or the equivalent of my own).
