Guadalajara Burger With Tequila-Spiked Salsa

READY IN: 35mins
Recipe by Torrig

The salsa that goes with this burger is a refreshing step away from your typical tomatoes and lettuce. The recipe makes more salsa than you need, so serve the extra on the side with tortilla chips. You can make the salsa ahead of time. Originally from my favorite cookbook Cooking Light 2004.

Here's the problem with this recipe. Salsa is composed of little diced ingredients. When you top the burger with the salsa, it mostly rolls off the burger. When you pick it , even more falls off. I ended up eating it by taking a bite of the salsa from a spoon and then a bite of the burger. It's just a case of seriously bad burger design. Otherwise, it's okay, but nothing special. The vaunted tequila-spiked salsa has little tequila flavor and is really just a good-but-nothing-special salsa. I wouldn't make this again.

Directions

  1. Burger: Prepare grill.
  2. Combine chili powder, salt, and beef. Divide into four portions, shaping each into a 1/2-inch thick patty.
  3. Grill five minutes on each side, or until done. Grill rolls, cut sides down for one minute or until toasted.
  4. Place one patty, along with 1/3 cup of salsa on each bun.
  5. Salsa: Combine all ingredients in a bowl, toss gently.
