Easy, quick and no complaints from the kids! It's a winner in our house for sure.
I modified slightly to use what veggies were on hand (broccoli & spring onions).
Might try with ground turkey next time. Great recipe

I halved the meat, but not the sauce, and used about two cups of frozen oriental veggies instead of the fresh veggies listed. I skipped the cornstarch because even with the halved meat, there was simply no sauce in the pan; it all soaked into the meat and veggies. Quick, easy, and smelled fantastic while cooking. We all enjoyed it. I wouldn't serve it to company, but this was a wonderful, inexpensive, easy weeknight meal that will be added to our regular rotation! For us, with the meat halved, it made three adult servings -- one for each of us, and one in the freezer for a lunch rice bowl!

very happy i found this recipe! hubby couldn't find A-1 steak sauce, but the kind i used tasted just fine. didn't use onions, green pepper or scallions and hubby couldn't find any bamboo shoots at the market. instead, i used a can of baby corn, shallots and fresh mushrooms. i intended to use the liquid from the water chestnuts to mix with the cornstarch, but totally forgot while i was cooking! didn't matter though. hubby, fussy daughter, 2 yr old son, and i just gobbled it up!!! smelled great while cooking and tasted delicious!!! will definitely be making again!

I loved this and would definitely eat it again, unfortunately dh and ds thought it was too sweet. Maybe I would omit the sugar next time.

The only thing I changed was I added no salt, full can of water chestnuts instead of bamboo shoots and used ground turkey. You do not need the salt. This does not make any sauce to pour over the rice. If any, teeny weeny. Yum!

Looking for something other than picadillo I came across this recipe, and needless to say it is great! So easy to make, fast under 30 minutes and on a budget. I made some shortcuts by buying frozen oriental stir fry vegetables, which already brings water chestnuts, carrots, mushrooms, peppers and onions. It worked out perfect! I did not add salt and I used low sodium soy sauce. Didnt have A1 so I used oyster sauce instead. Skipped bamboo shots and celery. My boyfriend loved it! Will be making again.

4 Stars, pleasant change of pace for budget meal. I omitted extra salt due to comments by other reviewers, but needed to pour on additional A-1 sauce at the table. I used so many vegetables I was unable to detect much sauce. This is great for family meals, it seems like a good way to get kids to eat veggies, and I could eat this when my senior diet demands blander foods. Made for Magic Mushrooms tag game for September 2008.

DH adored this, as I knew he would. Not the healthiest recipe, what with all the sodium and sugar, but hey- it's economical and very very tasty. I made with 1 lb. of gb, omitted the salt and celery and water chestnuts. Also, I kept the amount of sauce indicated, which was not too much for 1lb beef as I had thought it would be. It's just so easy to make and very very tasty over brown rice. Thank you for sharing.

This was delicious. I omitted the salt and the sugar for health reasons but otherwise made it exactly as written. Easy to make and it goes a long way, especially when served over rice.

This is so awesome! I forgot to review it when I made it some time ago... but I am making it again and here is my review! I did not change a thing except I omitted the green pepper as DB hates them. Nice flavor and a little spicy which we love!

This was superb. I had to put it in 2 skillets as none of mine were big enough. I loved that it made soooo much b/c my family can eat. I used a can of shitake mushrooms & followed the recipe exact. It is a great dish for the warmer months.

I didn't add the salt, used reduced sodium soy sauce but it was still much too salty for our taste. It did make a ton of food, but I think we are salt sensitive, I rarely add it to our food, so it's just our taste---

This was absolutely wonderful - definitely a keeper. I currently have three college age students (two of them are boys - who eat a lot) in my house and it is sometimes hard to find recipes for eight servings that are easy on the budget. Thanks Bugstomper for posting this recipe - I'll be making it again.

I made this last weekend and it makes plenty! Really easy to make and very tasty! I used Garlic A-1 - since we can't get enought garlic! Didn't have any celery on hand, but used the chestnuts and bamboo shoots and it was really good! Will make again!

This was good. My husband wasn't a big fan. It's very easy to make and it's a great way to use up any extra veggies you have at hand.
