Ground Beef Stroganoff

"This is one of my mother's recipes that I've made for years now, and my kids love it! I love how easy it is to prepare, and how flexible you can be. Can be served on egg noodles, crunchy chow mein noodles, or even rice!"

  1. I used this recipe as more or less a rough guide as I changed a few things. Omitted mushrooms but used a can of cream of mushroom instead of chicken. Also added garlic powder and substituted beef bouillon for the salt. Drained grease before adding the cream of mushroom but added in some extra butter and about a 1/2 cup water for a looser sauce. Didn't have plain sour cream but had sour cream ranch dip and used that instead. My mother always made her "cheater's stroganoff" with only ranch dip, hamburger, and pasta so I knew i'd like the flavor. Added a little extra of the seasonings, simmered, and served over pasta. It came out great and my DH loved it. So simple, and pretty quick so I will be making this again :)

  2. Delicious and SO quick and easy! The only changes I made were to use fresh mushrooms instead of canned and cream of mushroom soup instead of cream of chicken. I also cooked the onions with the ground beef which worked fine. It tasted like a meal that took lots of prep and time to cook but was start-to-finish ready in only a few minutes. We will certainly make this again very soon. Thank you!

  3. I haven't had stroganoff in so long!! I was thrilled that it was so easy to throw together. I did substitute the cream of chicken soup for cream of mushroom and added some Worcestershire sauce. My husband added some red wine to his... he seemed very pleased.

  4. Thank Goodness for you! This was quick and easy. Made it veg by using Morningstar crumbles, and cream of mushroom soup. (have a quick homemade recipe). So good. Great as is and as a base to add to. Gonna add red wine and chopped garlic next time. Great for unexpected omni guests!

  5. SO easy and yummy too. I forgot to add the paprika and I did miss that extra spice. Next time I'll be sure to add it and maybe some garlic pepper or a splash of red wine. Also I just cooked the onions in with the ground beef to keep it a one pan meal and that worked just fine. Thanks for an easy dinner that I'll be working into the rotation!

Tweaks

  1. Sauteed fresh mushrooms and 2 cloves of minced garlic in a bit of butter. Swapped cream of chicken for low sodium mushroom. Added 1 can of undiluted beef consomme soup. Yum!!!! Next time I'll add some red wine and worcestershire.

  4. Simple and delicious. The recipe doesn't specify that you should use condensed soup (undiluted), but that does the trick. We used mushroom soup, and substituted the chopped mushrooms with peas (a traditional family addition). Delish!

  5. My family loved this & it went quick! Instead of browning onions with butter, just because I was feeding little ones that dont care for onions, I just used onion powder, and made everything in the same pan. Only regret I had is that I used no yolk noodles (which has nothing to do with the recipe) that I forgot my one year old didnt like. He however loved the ground beef strognoff mixture. Thank you for this simple recipe!!!
