  • Brown and drain ground beef.
  • Add celery, bean sprouts, water chestnuts, mushrooms, broth, pimientos, soy sauce and ginger; heat over medium heat and mix well.
  • In a small bowl or jar, mix cornstarch and water until smooth.
  • Stir cornstarch mixture into beef mixture. Cook until it is bubbly and slightly thickened.
  • Serve over chow mein noodles or cooked rice.

  1. Reminds me of my childhood too. This was a staple in my home growing up. Over the years had lost the recipe, been searching. Thanks for posting. Mom served it over rice with the chow mein noodles on top.
     
  2. Bland. I added hoisin and 'oil 'n chili' and it had more zip and flavor. Also needs more color; could be any colorful veg.
     
  3. Rather bland to me, but overall with a little tweaking next time, might add some heat, and the standard Bamboo Shoots, and Oyster Sauce.
     
  4. My family really enjoyed this. Maybe I will add some sauteed green onions to this dish next time. I also added some frozen pea pods which gave the dish a bit of color.
     
  5. We love this!!! I doubled the recipe and have made this several times now. I did not use the Water Chestnuts because I do not like them.

  1. I've made this for years! but always used Gravy Master instead of broth! yum!
