I found this recipe on the internet and thought it sounded too good! I have posted it here for ZWT6 Germany
- 2 slices pumpernickel bread
- 1 -2 slice aged gouda cheese
- 2 slices dill pickles, blotted dry with a paper towel
- 1 slice smoked ham
- 1 tablespoon butter (more or less to your liking)
- Prepare sandwiches as you would for regular grilled cheese sandwiches and enjoy!

Very tasty!! I think a good pumpernickel bread is crucial here. There is another grilled cheese recipe here on Z, sorry, can't remember which one off the top of my head, that says to use mayo on the outside of the bread instead of butter. I did that and it sure makes for crispy yumminess! I also used 3 thin slices of ham. Next time, I may add a wee bit of sauerkraut to the sammy as well. Thanks for posting Leah. I thought these sandwiches were fabulous. I enjoyed the flavor combination of gouda cheese with smoked ham. I used thin slices of gouda and the cheese melted perfectly for me...no problems. I think the pumpernickel bread is a must. It complements the other flavors perfectly!! This was delicous. Danke! ~Made for ZWT 6 Zee Zany Zesty Cookz~
