I made the cake today, and once again learned a lesson not to make any recipe unless there is a picture of the final product. Each layer came out to be very thin (less than 1/4 inch). The recipe is missing the part where you are mixing the dry products with liquid, and directs only to add yogurt to the flour mixture (where did the egg mixture go?). I'll probably end up baking another set of 2 layers, and make a 4 layer cake to give it some height.
I had green tea cake for the 1st time at Todai in Hawaii and loved it. That cake was lighter and a pretty green color, so I may try using a green food coloring. I'll have to figure out how to make the cake not quite as heavy. Very good cake though. My family liked the frosting, I preferred it without cream cheese frosting.
I wanted to make this for a long time & finally got green tea powder.Wow!Rave reviews from select few who ate it.Lovely cake.Would be great as a birthday cake too.I didnt have cake flour and added 2 tbls.corn sartch, came out great. Also containers of yogurt only 6 oz,I added 2 oz sourcream.Very good results.
This cake is simply amazing. A very subtle but delicious green tea taste, and it melts in your mouth with the cream cheese.
