Green Chile Cheeseburger

"Here is a healthier way to make the popular Southwest green chile cheeseburger. It's from the Cook This, Not That cookbook. I cook these on my indoor grill pan, and I use ground bison, which is what my husband and I prefer. I omit the tomato on the burgers and serve these with a lettuce and tomato salad It's a great, quick summer dinner."

directions

  • Heat a grill, stove-top grill, or cast iron pan. Season the meat with salt and pepper. Form four even patties, being careful not to overwork the meat. When the pan is hot, add the burgers.
  • Cook for 3-4 minutes on the first side (until nicely charred), then flip and immediately top each with a tablespoon of chiles and a slice of Swiss.
  • For medium-rare burgers, cook for 3-4 minutes more, until the patties are just firm.
  • Remove the burgers and toast the buns on the hot grill or pan.
  • Place a tomato slice and onion slice on the bottom half of each bun. Top each with a burger.

  1. Loved this recipe! I used our hot Pueblo Green Chiles, havarti cheese and topped with guacamole. I soak my red onions in ice water to take away the pungent taste. I’ll make over and over. Thank you.

I am an active lady, and I am not the top chef in the world, but I can hold my own. I love making things that remind me of when I was little, I love trying out new recipes, and I love learning new things to cook. Most of the recipes I post are recipes I loved that I found online, but that I have tweaked just a bit. I do have some family recipes on here too. I love to bake, probably more than anything else in the kitchen. I love to bike ride. I like to read, travel, kayak (I've only been twice, but I loved it), hike, camp, basically any outdoorsy/active stuff.?
