Green Beans

"This recipe came from a good friend who learned it from her grandmother. The sugar in the green beans give it a good flavor."

  1. Just a tad too sweet, otherwise perfection!

  2. I like this recipe very well with the addition of crumbled bacon mixed with the beans and a little bit of crushed red pepper chillis for an additional bite. Very easy and frugal for a good side dish. Thanks...

  3. These are great! I loved the addition of the bacon grease. I did like others suggested and only used half the amount of sugar. Very easy to prepare and tasty too. Thanks for posting.

  4. This has become my new way to fix green beans! After reading the other reviews, I cut the sugar to 1 1/2 teaspoons and the sweetness was just right for me. I used French style green beans and served with recipe#242508 and recipe#301661. Thanks for posting!

  5. Loved these green beans!!! I didn't drain any of the liquid from the can because I knew I was going to be simmering them for a while longer than the 15 minutes while I prepared the rest of the meal. I didn't have any bacon grease... so I just browned up 2 slice of bacon along with just a touch of olive oil... and only added in about 1 tsp of sugar because I knew it was going to be too sweet for our tastes from reading other reviews. I left out the salt since my green beans were not the "no salt" variety. I think I let them simmer for almost 35 minutes and they were just delicious! Thanks for another great way to prepare one of our favorite veggies!!!

I had to drop out of culinary school in the summer of 2006 to have the first of two back surgeries. I still love to cook, however it takes a lot out of me physically to do so. I'm learning to make a lot of simpler recipes that are tasty.
