Greek Seasoning

"This is close to Cavendar's Greek Seasoning except without the MSG. Some discussion that MSG causes appetite increase as well as other issues so I am eliminating it, but do love the greek seasoning. I have found I like this mix better than the original so I have not tried to adjust to match the taste perfectly."

  1. I made the recipe exactly as directed. Way too much salt and black pepper. I had to double the recipe, eliminating the salt and pepper in the second batch. Following ingredients in another Greek Seasoning Recipe on Food.com, I also added 1 t. paprika, 1/2 t. cinnamon, and 1/2 t. nutmeg for each recipe. Since I had to double the recipe (eliminating the salt and black pepper on the second batch) to cut down on the salt and black pepper, I doubled the paprika, cinnamon, and nutmeg to 2 t., 1 t., and 1 t. respectively. I also added 1 t. dried mint per recipe.

  2. I love Cavendar's greek seasoning. It is one of my 'secret' ingredients! I typically use it on pan-fried potatoes, and couldn't wait to try your version. It did not disappoint. I sprinkled it generously and have enough seasoning left for 2 more uses, probably. The store bought is kinda pricy, so I'm happy to have run into this take on the seasoning. Thanks for sharing a wonderful recipe, Princess Lisa!

  3. I needed some seasoning for a Greek potatoe recipe from this site. I checked out a few & this one caught my eye because I recognized the Cavender brand & I had everything to make it. I sprinkled some on a buttered saltine to taste. 10 crackers later.... well, it sure is good. The only change I made was to cut the salt in half for my taste. Thanks for sharing!!!

  4. My husband called me from a BBQ recently raving about Cavendar's. Not wanting to go search for it in the store, I jumped on zaar. I was so excited to find this recipe and he was thrilled to find it waiting for him. We use it on burgers mostly and have also tried it on roasts. This is terrific. I have never tried the original but my husband says this is even better! Thanks so much for posting it!!
