Greek Macaroni Bake

"Don't let the the word Greek in macaroni bake scare you. This dish is awesome. My mother (God rest her soul) used to make this dish for me and my brother all the time. Just gotta try it!"

  • Brown beef and onions. Drain fat. Stir in next 3 ingredients. Set aside.
  • In med. saucepan, combine next 2 ingredients. Gradually stir in milk. Cook and stir over med. heat until mixture thickens (DO NOT BOIL).
  • Beat next 3 ingredients. Gradually stir in sauce. Add macaroni. Spoon 1/2 macaroni mixture into 2-quart casserole dish. Cover with meat mixture and top with remaining macaroni.
  • Bake at 350 for 45 minutes.

  1. This recipe is a childhood favorite. There is an error. The list of ingredients should include 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg to be added in step 3. This is the 3rd ingredient missing from step 3.
     
  2. This was pretty darn good for just a good casserole dish. I increased the hamburg to 1 1/2 as we like more meat. Decreased the noodles to a little over a cup as there never seems to be enough cheesy sauce for us and boy I was glad I did because there wouldn't have been. The cheesy stuff was real light and fluffy, really different and good. I think it would have been even better if you did more with the tomatoe sauce hamburg mixture which I will do next time. Worth a try and glad I came across it as it was a little different.
