Gravy With Sausage or Hamburger

"This is just a quick and easy down home recipe that my Grandmother made quite often and there was never any leftovers :<( I dont think that I know anyone who does not like this. We serve it over fresh hot biscuits or toast with home fries and slices of fresh tomatoes. Sometimes for supper and sometimes for breakfast. Its a southern thing! Also one reviewer said it was kind of bland, so to give it more flavor be sure and brown the sausage really well and cook the flour for a few minutes as well. If you do not brown the sausage and flour it it will have a tendency to be bland."

  1. I have never had the courage to make gravy, my mother's was always terrible and so I always felt safe with the pre-made jar at the grocery store. But this has made me have faith. It was very easy and absolutely yummy. I was very proud of myself!

  2. I was in a hurry, and hadn't a lot of options, for dinner tonight. I was directed to this specific recipe from SuperCook. My mom used to make something similar to this, but I had forgotten all about it. I used 1.5 lbs ground beef, 1/2 cup flour, plenty of salt and pepper, a bit of garlic salt, and subbed beef broth for half of the milk. I prepared white rice using beef broth, butter and salt and pepper. I served the hamburger gravy over the rice with a green salad on the side.

  3. This is similar to the "recipe" I use, where I never measure or write down, so I tried this out tonight to get a "real" recipe. I used 1 lb hamburger, 1/4 c flour, and about 1 1/2 cups skim milk to get the consistency we like. I also like to microwave the milk to warm it up before stirring it into the gravy. We served it over mashed potatoes - we save the biscuits for the sausage gravy. Thanks for posting - I'm glad to have a real recipe to refer to!

  4. The recipe was awesome!, but it needs more flavoring than just salt and pepper. I added Italian seasoning, red bell pepper, and a can of mushrooms, and it was still a little on the bland side. Maybe some garlic or onion powder. Still, I will definitely use this recipe again.

  5. I make this for the family every Sunday, I add 3-4 strips of bacon and some red pepper flakes to spicen it up.

I live in Rising Star Texas,I have 2 gorgeous daughters, Kristina 21 and Katrina 18. Gods greatest gift to me EVER. I guess I was born cooking. Cannot remember when I didn't. I am at home in any kitchen and totally relaxed. Cooking makes me HAPPY. and I love to cook for others. I work @ First Baptist Church there, I raise all kinds of birds, chickens, peacocks, ducks, turkeys, I have a cockatiel(Marvin), a rottweiler(Beavis, because he is a BUTTHEAD) A shelty (Maggie)2 cats, Tommy & Tinkerbell, which I call Tink or Puss. My husband is great and the sweetest person ever. I really do not think he knows how to get mad. Or he didn't before he met me anyway. My pet peeves are stupid people with an attitude. My favorite cookbook is a really old BH&G that I got from my mother over 25 years ago. I am only 41, but I started cooking @ age 7. If I had a month off...HMMM. I would definately go to New Braunfels Texas and stay at the River Run condos and float the river all day every day and cook a little.
