  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Combine all ingredients in large mixing bowl.
  • Beat until smooth.
  • Spread the dough on 2 large greased cookie sheets.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes.
  • While still warm, break the dough into chunks and grate it or whirl briefly in blender, about one cup at a time.
  • Return to 250 F oven to crisp for 20-30 minutes.
  • Store in airtight container.
  • Serve for breakfast with milk.

  1. These turned out great! We can't buy Grape Nuts where I live, and I love them so I was eager to try this out. I have a flour grinder so I ground up some fresh wheat flour and soaked it overnight in the buttermilk. I had to cook it for almost an hour before it was crisp enough to grate in the food processor. The second time around I made a double batch. Thanks for sharing this!
     
  2. THis turned out fairly well for me, although I too added another 5 minutes to the final baking time and it still wasn't quite as crispy as I had thought. No where near the hard crispy balls that are GrapeNuts Cereal. That's o.k. though as I purposely didn't want them that hard. I would suggest to future reviewers that if they want more of the hard cripsy ball type cereal to bake longer than the 30 minutes. I used wholewheat flour and also Splenda brown-sugar. This is perfect for a topping to my yogurt and fruit or oatmeal. I probably won't eat it plain unless it would be an addition to my other cereals!~ Thanks Unknown!~ Made for I Recommend~
     
  3. This was pretty good, but I needed to bake mine at 250 for about 45 min to crisp it up. I used Splenda brown sugar & added some cinnamon. It was a thick dough to spread out but I managed! I only made a quarter of the recipe & it made a lot for my tiny household! Will be trying this with some hot milk & honey :-). Thanks for sharing.
     
  4. Fantastic cereal! I used buckwheat in lieu of graham flour the results were a good nutty flavor much like Grape Nuts. Thanks for this recipe will do again.
     
  5. BRAVO UnknownChef!!! This is so clever and easy. I have already used your cereal idea in a recipe for granola bars and served it over fruit and yogurt for a mid-morning breakfast and I only found it 2 days ago. I have it stored in an old yogurt container and I will probably be tossing it into stuff to add a bit of sweet crunch constantly. I love it!! I made a half a batch and mixed some bran flour in with the whole wheat - it worked out great. Thanks for sharing this gem of an idea!!
