Made these for a recent weekend out with the hubs. I replaced some of the honey with molasses for all the nutrients it has to offer and flavor, too. We froze them, cut them into bite size pieces, and packed them to take around the disc golf course. The ones that were left toward the end of the day did get a bit crumbly, but it was pretty warm out (90-ish), and they were in the side pocket of his golf bag, so they were jostled around pretty well. I am making them again for a tournament this week. Love this recipe. Oh yeah...and our 5 boys loved them, too.
My big brother used to make me these when I was in school. I just loved them. Now that I have kids, I called him to find out how to make those and he had forgotten. I am so glad to see this recipe here!!!
This recipe is excellent! Do yourself a snacking favor and try it out! Make a 1/2 recipe if you aren't sure - that is what I did at first. Then I went on to make batch after batch. These freeze well too. Make them and then cut them into bars and place in a zip up freezer bag and freeze. They can be eaten almost straight from the freezer. Terrific energy food and pick-me-up!
This was so easy to put together and had a great taste. The peanut butter and honey are so delicious together. Be sure you like Grape Nuts cereal if you're going to try these because they do have a unique crunch and taste. I preferred them at room temperature rather than straight out of the refrigerator. Thanks for posting this great snack bar recipe!
I'm so glad I tried this recipe! Fantastic snack or energy bars! These would be perfect for a breakfast on the go, hiking or camping. I love that they're sweetened with honey rather than corn syrup. Only change I made was to use Grape Nuts Trail Mix Crunch cereal which is Grape Nuts with raisins and almonds added, so I cut down the cranberries a bit to offset the raisins. They firmed up at room temperature without a problem. Used the parchment paper which worked really well, especially for pressing them into the pan. Only tip I have is to watch the peanut butter honey mixture while cooking to make sure it doesn't scorch. This one's a keeper! Thanks for sharing your recipe!
