This recipe comes from my family's background. I believe it started with my grandma who was from England.
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 lb fresh mushrooms, washed and sliced
- 1 (10 ounce) carton sour cream
- 1 teaspoon dill
- 1⁄2 teaspoon garlic powder
- salt and pepper, to taste
- Saute onion in butter until transparent, add mushrooms, cook until lightly brown.
- Add sour cream and seasonings.
- (If too thin, add 1 tbsp flour) Cover and cook over low heat until heated through.
This is a good dish, however not as flavorful as I expected. This could have been the mushrooms or the fact I used fat free sour cream. I will make it again using fresher mushrooms and the real sour cream. Thanks Shirl for sharing this recipe.
This was great. DH loved it. At first I wasn't sure 'cause he didn't say anything but then he said "this mushroom thing is really good huh? You didn't want seconds did you?" lol. I had to use up a package of mushrooms b4 they went bad and had these ingredients on hand so thought I'd try it. Glad I did but next time I will have to make a larger amount since I didn't get seconds lol. I didn't use the amounts called for since I used what was on hand so I didn't really follow the recipe to a T (but I never do anyway). I didn't add flour, it was great like it was. Maybe if I was using the larger quantities I might feel the need. Thanks for a great recipe which I will be making often. This is an easy side dish that can go with almost anything. It would also be good tossed with some egg pasta as a quicky meal and I was even thinking about possibly adding other veggies like zucchini. I also thought that it would be nice to slice the onion into rings and saute them slowly. Thanks for posting.
This was excellent! I like a thicker sauce, and don't like adding flour at the end -- so I used about 6 tbsp butter and sauteed the mushrooms and onion, then added about 1 1/2 tbsp flour and cooked some to coat the shrooms. Then added the sour cream and seasonings. I will definitely make this again and again!
