      These are just tolerable for us; they are soft with a heavy, cakey texture. But I probably made some bad substitutions. I used oat bran instead of wheat germ, and didn't have enough rolled oats so had to use partly quick oats. I did use whole wheat PASTRY flour, which is much lighter than the average wheat flour. I also subbed applesauce for the oil, and that made them just a little rubbery. I think what saved them for my husband and I is we used chopped dried cherries instead of raisins. The tart cherries are wonderful in bars!

      wanted to update my review. i've made these several times- such a great healthy snack. because these are so sweet, i found that i can entirely omit the sugar and the honey provides plenty of sweetness.

      This is a great basic bar for nut-free schools! Quickly made and easily done. Also, very forgiving of subsitutions! I used Baker's Prune Butter (substitute for Oil in Chocolate Cakes) Baker's Prune Butter (substitute for Oil in Chocolate Cakes) instead of oil, threw in 1/4c of oat bran and instead of raisins; chopped dried fruit and carob chips.
