This was my grandmother's recipe. I've made it countless times, now my own children make it. It is a very moist banana bread.
- Place bananas into mixer and cream with sugar and shortening. (You can subsitute 1 cup applesauce for shortening).
- Beat in egg.
- Slowly add dry ingredients.
- Add vanilla.
- Fold in nuts.
- Pour into greased loaf pan. Very Important: Place into a cold oven NO PREHEATING. bake at 350 for 1 hour.
The nuts make this banana bread a little different. Very yummy and easy to make. In the ingredients list, it calls for vegetable oil, but the directions mention shortening. I opted to use oil, which I am guessing makes the bread more moist.
