This is a favorite recipe of mine that I remember my grandmother making. Hope you enjoy it.
- Melt butter in a small saucepan.
- Slowly stir in flour.
- Cook and stir over medium heat 3-5 mins after mixture bubbles.
- Gradually stir in milk.
- Add seasonings.
- Cook stirring constantly until mixture is smooth and thick and comes to a boil.
This is an amazing sauce with fresh ground black pepper. I added just a hint of dried parsley to it too - how my mum makes it. Thanks so much for posting this!

You are so right! I make this all the time.This is the "standard" of white sauce. Then it is an easy step if you want cheese sauce, alfredo, pesto white or wonderful cream gravy. Thanks for posting.
