This recipe is Kuchen not Kolache's. I came from a German family and this recipe is exactly like the one from my family, even the prune filling. Although I found in Germany when I visited Kuchen meant sweet rolls.

If the recipe stated add icing on top, this would be a 5 star! As it is, it is pretty close. I made some with the ball and indent and then did some like the old kolache rolls. Definitely an "all day" project. Thanks for posting! Will be making again. Made for the Photo Tag Game.

This did take me exactly 3 1/2 hours, from mixing to baking. I used whole wheat flour. I made my own apricot filling from another recipe. It made 55 kolaches (probably s/b 60 - first few were too big). The sugar instructions were missing, so I put it in with the 2 C flour. The taste was okay. They seemed too dry and the topping didn't add anything to it. The topping made way too much too. Maybe if you brushed the finished balls with butter b4 putting the topping on and used cinnamon/sugar for the topping they would be better. Seemed like a lot of work for an average taste.
