I made this as a quick breakfast pastry because I was short on time and had a pie crust in the house. "Squish" the roll tightly to keep the sugar from falling out and grease the pan well. These are not as soft as regular cinnamon rolls - they end up more like a flaky cookie (like a palmier).
I gave this recipe 5 stars. I used to make cinnamon just like this when I was a teenager. I don't remember where I got the idea to do this but I did. Everyone loved them. I was just thinking about these the other day. Thanks for posting a awesome recipe! Christine (internetnut)
I glazed these with Cinnamon Bun Icing, and they came out so good. I added some cinnamon to the icing just to send it over the top, and it did!!! Everyone loved these and went back for more! I did try a couple without the icing, and they were awesome as is too! Thanks!
These are delicious, Linda. I have made these from my own pie crust for years and years. I learned this from my grammy. Most of the time I make them when I am making a pie. They are so tender and full of sugar and cinnamon that tastes heavenly. My kids and grandkids always loved them too. When I would bake a pie they would always want to know where the "little cinnamon things" were. My aunt and uncle were here one time and I make a pie for him as he loves pie. I had some dough leftover and make some of these. He was so excited and said that he hadn't had these since he was a kid. Thanks for posting this.
Made these for a snack last night and my DH and I thought they where great! Simple, quick and you can pop em in your mouth right out of the oven. If you love cinnamon you will love these tasty treats!
Can't say I was fond of these. It just tasted like eating pie crust to me. I followed the directions, which weren't all that clear to me in the first place, I think it was the way it was worded.
These were so good and so easy!! I've never made cinnamon rolls of any kind and I didn't get these rolled tight enough, so all my filling melted out. And I over baked them a little, but all in all, they were still delicious!! My DH and DS wanted a powdered sugar glaze, but I liked them plain. What a wonderfully easy treat! What a treat! I love the flaky texture of the pie crust with the sweet cinnamony filling. I added a drizzle of powdered sugar glaze. My family ate them up.
My mom made these all the time out of left over pie crust when we were small. My dad calls them rollerbungers...whatever that is. Thanks for the memory. I will have to make them for my kids next time I am making pie.
