The fresh green beans are so tasty right now, and this recipe was just what I was looking for. Comforting and delicious, this was a real hit with the whole bunch! We loved them so much! Flavor was great! Thanks!
Your gram must have known my great grandmother! This is the way she made her green beans, except she didn't use just cider vinegar. We sprinkled the vinegar from homemade pepper sauce on ours! And when we were kids, we would mash the potatoes up with a fork and pour the "pot likker" over it to enjoy the wonderful juice. Thanks for posting your recipe! Brought back great memories! Made for Gimme 5 Tag Game.
I had these many times as a child when my grandmother would make us dinner and have been looking for this recipe for years! The beans came out wonderfully flavored and so tender! They went great with our Meatloaf dinner, and now that I found this recipe I will be making them every chance I get! We loved the addition of the vinegar. Just plain yummy! DH had 3 servings, grinning at me each time too! Next time I might put in some potatoes and cook them in with the green beans. OK, now I am licking my chops! Thank you!
I love my fresh green beans and so do my kids, so this looked good. I have never made them with the salt pork, so I took a trip to the store and bought a nice chunk. I have to say, they are even better than my traditional recipe using a ham bone. The salt pork gives it more flavor, and with the addition of the cider vinegar, they were so darn good, I kept going back to the pot for more! I had some good looking new potatoes, so I threw them in too, and we had with baked ham. I might even try adding in some greens to go with this next time. Collards or kale, I'm thinking. What a meal! Y'all gotta try these!
These beans were awesome! Love the salt pork. What great flavor. The vinegar really adds to them too along with the butter. These will be eaten often this way here. We loved this recipe!
I added new potatoes to the water when cooking these, the last 25 minutes of cooking time. Talk about flavored green beans and taters, these were a nice addition to our baked chicken dinner! They are so good when you use fresh veggies right out of the garden, which is what I did. The salt pork flavored the beans and taters and they were so good we ate them all at one sitting and there was only 2 of us! DW says I can make them for her anytime. Thank you for this one Linda! Tony
