Goldy Bear's Scout's Brownies

This came from Diane Mott Davidson's book "Dying for Chocolate", and was "created" by caterer Goldy Bear. These were a hit last Thanksgiving.

  1. preheat oven to 350 degrees (high altitude 375).
  2. Melt butter with unsweetened chocolate in a double boiler.
  3. Set aside to cool.
  4. Sift together cocoa, flour, baking powder and salt.
  5. Beat eggs until creamy, and slowly add the sugar, beating constantly.
  6. Add vanilla and cooled chocolate/butter mixture.
  7. Stir in dry ingredients until just combined.
  8. Spread batter in buttered 9x13 pan.
  9. Sprinkle chocolate chips over surface.
  10. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until center is set.
  11. Let cool before cutting.

I started making this recipe shortly after it was published in Diane Mott Davidson's book in 2005. I have made it numerous times for soccer teams and office groups. It is fabulous and is now the only chocolate brownie recipe I make. Do NOT scrimp on ingredients. Use butter, not margarine. Use best quality chocolate. It really makes a difference.

Very good!! Very easy to make but I would have liked them to be a bit denser and fudgier. Having never made brownies before, I'm not sure if it was something I did. I'll make them again and let you know if they're any different.
