The store bought GF crackers just aren't that good and they're very expensive. I found this recipe somewhere on the internet. This recipe works best with a white rice flour blend.

Ingredients Nutrition

Directions

  1. Sift the flour, salt and baking soda into a bowl.
  2. Cut in the butter until very fine.
  3. Add the milk and egg and mix to make a stiff dough.
  4. Knead thoroughly and then roll the dough very thin - about 1/16".
  5. Cut into square or rounds and place on lightly buttered cookie sheets.
  6. Prick the crackers with a fork and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  7. Bake in a 400 degree oven for 10 minutes or until very lightly browned.
  8. Allow to cool completely and store in an air tight container.
  9. NOTE: These taste best after they have cooled completely.

These are great!!! I used Bob's All Purpose GF Flour and they turned out really well. I rolled mine out on parchment paper, scored them and stuck the whole thing on a cookie sheet...made it much easier. I will be making these many times!!! Thank you.

Instead of rolling out the dough, I divided it into several balls and used a tortilla press with wax paper dusted with GF flour. This allowed me to get them uniformly thin. These were okay for a gluten free cracker. They tasted more like a pie crust than a cracker, however. I think I will actually use this recipe to make a savory pie crust for things like chicken pot pie.

OMG! I have been wishing (for a long time) for a simple, easy and tasty cracker to make . . . . thank you so much. I found the dough consistency quite sticky but found that adding a little flour each time I rolled it out helped, am going to try them with fresh rosemary next time. Thanks so much :)
