Gluten Free Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

"I have to give credit to Chelle_N for this recipe. I took a punt and replaced the flour in her recipe #99839 with gluten free flour and they turned out just great, and my kids love them. I have included the GF flour recipe first (first 4 ingredients). I didn't use as much sugar as her recipe said to use, and I left out the raisins 'cause my kids don't like them. They make for a reasonably healthy biscuit."

  1. Bob Red Mills has GLUTEN FREE oats now. Google or buy it at HFS. Be careful eating them at first, your system is not use to oat fiber and needs time to adjust. One smaller serving a week should be max at first. Some will have a problem with oats always, bc they gave a protein similar to gluten, but it is not gluten. For those I am sorry.

  2. There's no such thing as a gluten-free oatmeal cookie, because oatmeal has gluten in it. It's not just about wheat!

  3. Sorry folks, but I just found out that Oats period, have some gluten protein in them. My cousin, an herbalist, and I went wild harvesting to gather milky oat tops in SF. After getting home and turning them into a tea and trying them, I was told by her after all that there is gluten in them even though she originally thought not...like most people. I went online and found a scientific breakdown of what oats have in them and voila', gluten!! Bummer ey? So tell everyone!!!!!! If they are from the oat family, they have gluten in them. May not be a lot, but not worth the chance of suffering. http://www.mdidea.com/products/new/new032.html#04 Take care, DM. Novato, CA.

  4. The recipe was great! At my local health food store they sell GLUTEN FREE OATS. They are expensive, but well worth it if you haven't had oats in a while. They are specially grown & processed so they are 100% GLUTEN FREE!!!

  5. Oats are naturally gluten free, but the way they are processed introduces gluten into the equation. So unless you purchase specially-processed oats, chances are they DO contain gluten. http://www.glutenfreeoats.com/research.aspx

My pet peeves - political correctness and blame shifting.
