Glorified Gravy

"I threw this together using what I had on hand. The "gravy" was delicious eaten by itself, and could be used as a "sloppy joe" type sandwich, or over pasta, rice, or my favorite, mashed potatoes. My toddler practically licked the bowl clean, as did my BF. On a side note, these measurements and directions are not exact. Feel free to substitute and adjust away! I also guessed on the time. It took me a little longer to make, only because I kept thinking of different things to add. So time is approximate!"

directions

  • Brown the ground chuck. Add the onion, mushroom, garlic salt, cumin and thyme. Continue to cook until onions just start to look clear.
  • Drain SOME of the grease (for a healthier version, drain it all. For the tastier version, leave a little).
  • Whisk together the 2 cups of cold water with the 2 gravy packets until smooth.
  • Add the water and gravy to the meat mixture. Bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and allow to simmer until the gravy thickens to desired consistency, stirring frequently.
  • Season with the season salt to taste.
  • Serve over mashed potatoes, rice, or pasta. Top with cheese, if desired.
  • TIP: Add mixed veggies for a more complete meal!

  1. A good hamburger gravy. I plan on having this some night when I don't feel like cooking. It will go good over mashed potatoes with a veggie side. I will have to pull the mushrooms out for me, but everyone else will enjoy them. Thnx for sharing your recipe, rodeoblonde. Made for PAC Spring 2010.
