These are a far cry from Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, but they are excellent doughnuts!!! Glazed is my favorite, but you can use your imagination and make filled doughnuts, powdered sugar, chocolate iced or whatever you like.

Ingredients Nutrition

  1. Combine milk, shortening, and salt; cool to lukewarm.
  2. Add yeast and let set for 5 minutes.
  3. Add 2-1/2 cups sifted flour, beating till smooth.
  4. Cover and let rise till bubbly.
  5. Add eggs and sugar, mix well.
  6. Add enough of the remaining flour to make a dough that can be kneaded.
  7. Knead till smooth.
  8. Cover and let rise to double.
  9. Roll out to 1/2 inch thickness.
  10. Cut with doughnut cutter.
  11. Let rise again till double.
  12. Fry in deep hot oil, at 375°F till golden brown on one side and then turn. Drain on paper towels.
  13. GLAZE: Mix powdered sugar and vanilla and milk using 1 tablespoon at a time till glaze is consistency you desire. You may need a little more or less milk, according to how thick you want your glaze.

Very good, however they are NOT worth eating the next day. Only make a double or triple batch if nessessary. -Julia C. age 10

Excellent, easy recipe. I experimented with the size and thickness and I think I like the suggested 1/2 inch, smaller donut. My son went nuts this morning when he got up to fresh donuts. Gonna make them for my husband's shop tomorrow. Thanks for posting.
