Reviews

  1. I wanted to change my review and up my rating to 5 stars. This is a great go-to recipe. I make it often and everyone loves it. Its easy to streach too. I use about 1 lb ground beef (usually a little more, anywhere from 1 to 1-1/4) and anywhere from 2 to 4 cans each (depending on hunger and number of people) of the tomato soup, veg soup, and my own addition of mixed vegetables. I only use about 1 can of water, more if it seems to need. I also sometimes add more water and some quick cooking brown rice which also helps to stretch it when needed. I keep all the ingredients on had so its a great meal to make in a pinch and perfect for thoes nights when you just don't feel like cooking but still want to make sure your feeding your family well. Its the perfect meal, low in fat and calories and all food groups are represented when you add some fruit for dessert.

  2. I used real girl scouts instead of hamburger, and it turned out great! Thanks for the Girl Scout Stew recipe, now I know exactly what to do when the it's that time of year and the girls come knocking on my door asking me to buy their cookies!

  3. Made this for my picky 2 year old granddaughter. She actually ate it. This recipe is very easy. I took the suggestion to serve this with a peanut butter and honey sandwich. I used recipe # 99155 for that. Thanks*~Christine~*

  4. I love this stuff. We called it Campfire Stew when I was in Girl Scouts. I still make it and sometimes I add some pasta to it or use only tomato soup and a large can of Veg-all. Thanks for the memories. It is a good tasting, very simple recipe.

Tweaks

  1. As a former scout and former scout leader for 10 years, we made ours a little bit different. We used 2 LG cans V8 juice instead of any canned soup or water. The girls would then bring a can of their favorite vegetable. (They planned in advance ??) So it was green beans, corn, peas, diced potatoes at least 2 cans (they liked potatoes!!) and diced tomatoes. My girls were a picky bunch that's why I let them bring the veggies. Then we always had cobbler for dessert that night, so 2 girls had to bring a can of pie filling, which they also preplanned ??, it was always apple! While everything cooked, they made ice cream either in baggies or kick the can style! Still in contact with most of those girls..their 36-37 yrs old and doing this with their kids. And say they make Brownie Stew everytime someone gets sick because it makes them get better!!??

  2. I was a Campfire Girl & our version was topped with Bisquick dumplings. Thank you, Mrs. Reed-our fearless leader!
